I found a job for my local police department online for an entry-level police officer. I took a look at it, because that's where I want to work. I of course can't apply right now because I haven't gone through police academy and I'm not certified, but here's the run down of the qualifications and what I can pass as of today, besides having my POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification upon graduation of academy (which I'm hoping to start academy in a calendar year almost).
For Carthage PD, "Applicants must satisfy the following qualifications."
Let's see what I can accomplish as of today...
Possess high school diploma or G.E.D. Equivalence.
Pass a general aptitude test.
Pass a spelling test.
Pass a word knowledge test.
Write a short composition.
MORE THAN LIKELY. I ALWAYS LIKED ENGLISH CLASSES WHERE WE WROTE THINGS LIKE COMPOSITIONS, POEMS, ETC. IT WAS JUST THE LITERATURE CLASSES I DIDN'T FANCY.
Pass a basic physical test.
SURE. I MAY NOT BE IN SHAPE, BUT HEY I CAN DO SIT UPS AND ALL. HECK, I CAN STILL DO BACKBENDS. I COULD ALWAYS DO SIT UPS EVER SINCE I WAS LITTLE. MY DAD USED TO HOLD ME UP BY MY ANKLES AND I'D BE HANGING THERE WHILE DOING SIT UPS. I IMPRESSED A LOT OF PEOPLE! MY DAD HASN'T DONE THAT IN YEARS THOUGH! SINCE I WAS 13 MAYBE.
Interview with an interview board(s).
OUCH. I'M NOT GOOD WITH INTERVIEWS, ESPECIALLY JOB INTERVIEWS.
Pass an extensive background investigation.
I'M A CLEAN SLATE. NOT EVEN A PARKING VIOLATION!
Pass a Post-job offer medical physical, psychological evaluation and Pre-employment Drug Screen.
LET'S SEE, I'M A PRETTY HEALTHY EATER. I'M IN GOOD HEALTH EXCEPT WHEN THINGS GET PASSED AROUND SUCH AS THE FLU AND COMMON COLD DURING WINTER TIMES WHEN I CATCH IT (THEY SAY BEING A CASHIER YOU GET EXPOSED TO A LOT OF THAT STUFF AND I CAN BELIEVE IT! LAST WINTER CUSTOMERS CAME IN WHO WERE SNIFFLING LIKE CRAZY, COULD BARELY TALK, ETC.) I'M NOT PSYCHOTIC. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND WEIRD IN THEIR OWN WAY, THOUGH. DRUGS. DRUGS?! UM, YEAH RIGHT. ONLY DRUGS I TAKE ARE PAIN KILLERS ONCE A MONTH FOR... YEAH... FEMALE STUFF. AND WHEN I'M PRESCRIBED SOMETHING WHEN I'M SICK. OR OTC MEDICINE WHEN I HAVE A RUNNY NOSE OR WHATEVER IN WINTER. YEAH, I'LL PASS THIS WITH FLYING COLORS.
Phase I (written test) & Phase II (physical test) July 20th 2005 AT 10:00 A.M. Applicants should dress for physical testing on this date. UGH, AN ORAL BOARD! AGAIN, NOT GOOD WITH INTERVIEWS AND ALL.
Well, I'm looking okay except for the interviews. Ugh! An oral board. Too much pressure! Can I do it?
For those of you who know, what can one expect to be asked on an oral board?
